Does anyone know if you can fit a tow-bar, to attach a cycle carrier, on a 2021 Jazz Hybrid

Cheers

Bob

This sort of suggests you can...

Two different questions, can I fix a tow bar? vs. can I tow a trailer?

I think I  read somewhere , possibly on another thread, that there is a tow bar manufacturer who make a tow bar for the Mk 4  but they  make it clear its only authorised  for cycle carriers and the like, not towing.  There is no authorised towing weight on the vehicle registration document.

There are a number of cars for which you can get a type approved "hitch" bar but which are not approved for towing, the VW Up for example. As said above, they are for cycle carriers etc.

I believe the bars still have to be type approved, it's certainly not legal to fit a non-approved towbar to modern cars (there is a manufacture date before which this doesn't apply).

https://shop.westfalia-automotive.com/towbars/honda/jazz/hatchback/59  would suggest that they are developing something for the latest Jazz.

Brink says. "Do you like cycling, but is your car not allowed to tow trailer weight? The RMC Brink bike carrier solution might be the answer to your problem. This system is not able to tow, but it does allow you to carry. Almost all bike carriers can be mounted on this carrying solution"
https://brink.eu/en-gb/towbars/towbar-types/bike-carrier-solution/
https://brink.eu/en-gb/towbars/frequently-asked-questions/is-there-a-towbar-for-hybrid-or-electric-cars/

See attached instruction sheet. It is not much harder than fitting rear mudflaps.
Brink give a rating plate label, and that states the only bikes , no towing.

Honda answers the question: https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/jazz-hybrid/accessories.html

Scroll a bit down and check "INDIVIDUAL ACCESSORIES". Number 1 of 8 is... a bicycle carrier...

Hi Guys,

Just for info for other Jazz Hybrid owners.

I have contacted my dealer who says that there is a unit that Honda supply as a dealer fit that is attached to the floor of the car and all electric connections made (4.5 hrs fitting labour charge included in price for a total of £975)  to the car and then a tow unit ( swan neck I think) is inserted into the attachment.

This allows for a cycle rack to be attached.

They say other types of units are available from tow bar installers but if anything went wrong with the electrics on the car after installing it probably would not be covered by the warranty.

They say this is NOT a proper Tow Bar and should not be used for towing.

The Honda cycle carriers are Thule and are somewhat more expensive than you can get from other suppliers.

I know I can get one of our e-bikes in the rear of the Jazz and possibly 2 but thinking of getting this unit and bike rack anyway for ease of lifting and to ensure we have some space for luggage.

Any thoughts on this or other options available would be appreciated

Is that with the back seats folded flat ?   Is it possible they might fit in the rear passenger floor well with the 'magic seat' bases up?   That would leave the boot free.

If you havnt tried  I've just done a rough measurement.  Length  across car about 1.20-1.30      height floor to roof 1,20,    width  front seat to back seat 50 -60 cm  .    rear passenger doors do  open wide.

These may be no where near the right ball park  , even with the front wheels removed.   If its close there might be a little bit more available on some measurements.

We have Bianchi full motor road e-bikes, I tried my bike in the back of the Jazz before ordering. I tried with the magic seats up and because it had drop handlebars the bike was too long to fit, even with the front wheel off and handlebar turned.

I then lowered the rear seats and the bike would fit in, without the front wheel, Handlebar forward then turned to fit.

I was thinking I could get my wife’s in with the rear wheel first because her seat height is lower.

However this is great for short runs but no good for holidays because there then is no luggage space left with two bikes and two front wheels, so could not even fit the bike batteries in the rear.

The bikes are too heavy for me to lift with battery in place (around 15-16kg) so even taking battery out the bike weighs around 13kg which I can just manage to lift.

This made me think of the tow bar and bike rack solution. Yes expensive, but would last a long time and in the end easier to usable manage - and I get luggage capacity as well!

My brother fitted a fancy 2 bike carrier on the back of his petrol SUV. This carrier was strong enough for Ebike weight, with bikes mounted on it the carrier could be folded (bent?) away from the back of the SUV so he could open the boot door, and also came with a little removable ramp so EBikes could be wheeled up onto it.
It was very expensive, but he has been happy he bought it.

I don't think I would trust those flimsy roof bars with the weight of two heavy e-bikes.
